The Battersea Dogs and Cats Home’s Old Windsor dog rescue centre is to host an Open Day and Fun Dog Show this Saturday as it celebrates its 150th birthday. A number of activities will be held on the day, including Temptation Alley, whereby dogs must complete an obstacle course without becoming distracted, as well as competitions such as Most Obedient Dog and Waggiest Tail. More practical services will also be available, including pet microchipping, and it is hoped that people will attend the event looking for suitable pets which they may be able to adopt.
A similar event was held at Yeovil Country Park last weekend, with more than 500 people in attendance. The event was organised by South Somerset District Council on Sunday, and included pet agility displays, with further competitions for best puppy, best rescue dog and best veteran, while pet health and dog experts were also present. The show made a profit of £153 which was donated to the RSPCA .
The Battersea Dogs and Cats Home recently appointed Claire Horton as its new chief executive, making this the first major public event that she will oversee in her new role.
