Two employees of the Darlington branch of the Dogs Trust have committed to taking part in the Three Peaks Challenge in May with a view to raising money for the animal charity . Pet lovers James Hewitt and Kelly Smith are leading the group of 11 from the Dogs Trust in climbing the UK’s three highest mountains in just 24 hours, with a target of raising £2,000 in the process. Nine other employees will be joining the two vets as they venture up Ben Nevis, Snowdon and Scafell Pike.
Ms Smith has admitted that she expects to find the task challenging, having never climbed a mountain before. She has, however, been cycling, running and circuit training as part of her preparation, and dog walking of course!
The Dogs Trust are one of a number of animals charities in the UK, though the number of unwanted pets continues to be a problem for these charities. The Dogs Trust recently announced it had three dogs in need of rehoming with hugely apt names – Cameron, Clegg and Gordon. Any money raised will help the charity fund the cost of taking care of pets and searching for new homes for them.
