Senior citizens in the UK are being advised that they do not need to have lost their sight to be eligible for a guide dog . An employee for the Guide Dogs for the Blind Association revealed that the group hopes to dispel a number of myths about their work, insisting that guide dogs are great pets that can boost the quality of life of elderly adults regardless of the state of their sight.
Pamela Munro, who works as an information officer across Scotland for the animal charity, says that guide dogs can enhance the confidence and independence of elderly citizens, insisting that a vast number of people in their seventies, eighties and nineties have successfully adopted guide dogs as a pet . The charity provides those in need of a guide dog with all the necessary equipment and training, while people can also request that the charity pays any vet bills and the cost of dog food . Potential owners do not need any prior experience of keeping a dog, and the charity will help any owners once they have been given a guide dog.
The charity has 1,000 staff in the UK, but relies on the invaluable work of 10,000 volunteers.
