Former Catwalk Model Rescues Abandoned Dogs

In 1974 Clarissa Baldwin, fed up with the world of modelling wanted to do more with her life.

Her new challenge was a job in the Press Office for the National Canine Defence League (now the Dogs Trust).

She was 24 when she started and today she is Chief Executive of the Dogs Trust. She has steered the organisation into becoming a highly successful charity in the UK.

She has been awarded an OBE in recognition of all her hard work to help vulnerable dogs. The Dogs Trust has been transformed from a charity that barely broke even into one that brings in £30m a year.

The charity has 17 re-homing and care centres around the UK and Ireland with over 700 staff. The trust re-homes up 16,000 dogs a year and their policy is that if a dog is healthy it will not be put down.

Modest about her achievements, Clarissa has turned a struggling charity into one of the largest dog welfare charities in Britain.
