Dizzy Rascal a happy energetic puppy nearly had his life cut short when he innocently ate some raisins. This happened when the four month old labradoodle decided to helpful himself to some treats that had been put out for the birds .
Dizzy’s owner, Phil Wakefield now wants to warn other dog owners to be aware of the dangers that the dried grapes can cause.
Grapes and raisins presents a potential health threat to dogs because their toxicity can cause the animal to develop acute renal failure.
Phil Wakefield of Swanage, says that "Two things saved him," firstly "If we hadn’t gone to a puppy party at our local vets and they talked about it, we wouldn’t have known." And secondly because Dizzy was caught eating the raisins, he was rushed to the vets and hence made to vomit them out.
Mr. Wakefield says that, it is especially important now with Christmas approaching as there will be plenty of mince pies, puddings and cakes on the menus, the little know danger of raisins should be highlighted. "If it helps save one family and one dog it will be worthwhile."
