Dulux dog to be shown on TV for first time in 15 years

To celebrate 50 years as Dulux’s mascot, the Dulux dog is to return to television screens for the first time in 15 years.

The new advert will be shown at 9.25pm on ITV and follows the dog on a journey around the UK as he helps people work out their decorating problems.

The Old English Sheepdog first appeared in an advert in 1961, but left our screens after 14 dogs had played the part. The cuddly breed's long and soft coat, which covers its face and eyes was a big hit with television viewers.

Dr Iain Davies, a marketing lecturer at the University of Bath, said the Dulux dog could claim credit for much of the company's success. He said: "The Dulux dog became a national treasure and I'm sure many people will be pleased to see it return to our screens. I own an Old English Sheep Dog and everybody who sees it describes it as a Dulux dog because the breed has become synonymous with the company."
