A dog from the Metropolitan Police force has suffered a fractured skull when rioters threw missiles at officers who were trying to quash the disturbance in North London.
The dog who suffered the injury was a three year old German shepherd by the name of Obi who was on frontline duties in Tottenham on 6th August 2011.
The dog and his handler came under heavy bombardment with numerous missiles including bottles, bricks, petrol bombs and furniture.
One of these missiles hit Obi on top of the head. During the disturbance the dog was checked over several times but only after they had left the scene did it become apparent that the dog needed veterinary assistance.
This was because the dog handler noticed that the dog was rather lethargic and was bleeding from his left nostril.
The dog was taken to The Queen’s Veterinary School Hospital in Cambridge for a CT scan which showed that he had a fractured skull just about the left eye socket.
All eight dogs that created the unit Obi belonged to suffered some injury or another that night. Most of them suffered cut paws due to broken glass and debris on the floor and some even suffered cuts and broken teeth.
