Dog Ban Imposed in Park

Wed, 21 Dec 2011

Dog owners from the village of Somersham are gathering on a piece of land known locally as a "dog walkers’ field" upon their village park being designated a canine-free zone.

The pet owners in Somersham have begun congregating on a grassy knoll close to Somersham Lake given that they have to abide by a new Dog Exclusion Order elsewhere within the village.

The Somersham Parish Council legislation was introduced on Dec 1 after many years of discussion and warnings which fell on deaf ears; it aims to address the continuous problem of dogs fouling in Norwood Playing Field.

Footballers would end up with dog mess on their boots and children would have dog muck on their shoes. It had become hazardous for your average visitors to the park.

Despite many warnings having been issued, the problem of dog mess is ongoing.

Therefore, in the end a ban on dogs had to be imposed in Somersham Village Park to keep dogs, their irresponsible owners at bay and their mess at bay.
