Over the festive period many of us spoil our dogs with toys, gifts and scrumptious leftovers.
In spite of our good intentions, most of us are not aware that leftovers can possibly be harmful.
Recent research undertaken for the Co-operative has uncovered that pampered pets that eat rich foods are getting ill, with owners incurring millions in vet bills.
Given the festive season, dog health is at high risk from eating foods, such as, sugar, chocolate and salt.
Nonetheless, 9 out of 10 dog owners were found to be exposing their dogs to possibly harmful food.
Fruit is considered to be the most harmful food for dogs as it contains seeds, or stones which can be poisonous for pets.
Chocolate is also deemed toxic for dogs. However, 39% of dog owners did not know this and another 12% admitted giving chocolate to their pet .
