Suffolk Show vetoes dogs

Fri, 28 Jan 2011

Organisers of the Suffolk show have banned dogs from the show this year which takes place on June 1 and 2, unless they are taking part in an event. These dogs will be kept to specific areas.

In the past, members of the public have been able to attend the event with their dog. However, this year following complaints about dog fouling, the show committee has decided to impose the ban for health, hygiene and welfare reasons. This action is certain to cause controversy as a great number of those who attend or participate in the show are dog-lovers .

The ban was announced at the Suffolk Agricultural Association annual general meeting and show director David Nunn, while prepared for "some opposition" to the decision, stated that a lot of the big agricultural shows had already introduced similar bans. He said: "It’s early days, and this is the first time we have actually said publicly what we are going to do."
