Thu, 17 Mar 2011

A flatcoated retriever overcame competition from 21,000 other dogs to be named Best in Show at this year's Crufts dog show .

Jet, winner of the Best Gundog category, beat six other finalists to claim the coveted prize in front of around 138,000 people at the NEC in Birmingham.

Handler Jim Irvine, who bred the Retriever in South Queensferry, Edinburgh, said winning Crufts was the "ultimate prize". He commented: "We're delighted, absolutely delighted to win this show. There have been lots of good dogs here over the last four days but he has a very happy and outgoing personality and it shows in the ring." According to Mr Irvine, a healthy dog food regime is one of the things that helps keep Jet in good shape all year round. Jet is fed two meals each day, which are a mixture of meat and dry food.

Crufts celebrated its 120th anniversary this year.
