Dogs Trust in Evesham wins GBP500 from Petplan

Thu, 05 May 2011

Petplan, the pet insurance provider, has donated £500 to Dogs Trust in Evesham.

The insurer works with re-homing charities and provides four weeks free insurance to every owner adopting pets through the shelters it supports and also offers free insurance vouchers to visitors and supporters of the charities . Each month a prize draw is held from all the insurance vouchers issued and one charity benefits from the prize fund.

The Dogs Trust, founded in 1891, is the largest dog welfare charity in the UK and cares for more than 16,000 dogs at 17 different rehoming centres throughout the country. The branch at Evesham can look after about 140 dogs at any one time, from young puppies to very old dogs, all of which need permanent homes with families.

Chris Slight, care manager at the Evesham Dogs Trust, said: "We’re so surprised to have won! The staff are just thrilled that we have been selected out of all the charities that enter this draw. We have 140 dogs at this centre at the moment, which is close to capacity so the money is much appreciated at a time like this."
