New device aims to reduce dog bites

A dog owner from the West Midlands has developed a pet product which he believes will reduce the number of dog bites that occur every year.

David Daly has constructed a colour-coded sleeve called Animal Behaviour Sleeve, which can be attached to leads. It has been designed to enable children to identify if a dog is safe enough to approach and stroke. He has a patent on the design and a prototype has received support from Business Link in Wolverhampton and Birmingham as well as his local MP.

Mr Daly said: "My aim is to increase safety for children around dogs and other animals. The idea came from seeing my three children around dogs and becoming nervous about how the animal would react to them. It really motivated me to create something that would protect children and help to give them knowledge about when to approach and stroke dogs and other animals."
