Norwich MP backs a petition to tackle irresponsible killer dogs

Following a wave of vicious dog attacks in Norwich, Simon Wright MP, has called on the council to impose a dog control order in the West Pottergate area to tackle aggressive dogs wandering off the lead.

If the control order is put into action, it will mean that dog-owners will risk getting an £80 pound fine if their pets are not kept on a dog lead . These measures have been taken after residents rallied together to sign a petition after their pets were killed by aggressive dogs which were out without a lead. People in other areas of Norwich have also had their pets attacked in their back garden and killed in parks by dogs that are out of control.

A leaked government consultation has revealed a proposed plan which intends to control dangerous dogs in the UK. The document from the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) suggests making it compulsory for all dogs in the country to be microchipped, which would result in all dog-owners and breeders having to store their details on a microchip and implant it under the skin of their animal.
