RSPCA puts up puppy farm dogs for adoption

Tue, 03 May 2011

Dogs damaged by the conditions they were kept in on a puppy farm have been put up for adoption by the RSPCA .

Llys Nini RSPCA, Swansea, has taken care of the 21 adult dogs taken from a site in Pembrokeshire, but says the animals are not used to being on leads or going outdoors. According to the RSPCA's Alison Lenihan, they were separated from other dogs while used for breeding and some had been kept in small kennels .

Ms Lenihan said: "They don't know how to play and they are a bit agoraphobic. They are not used to socialising with humans a lot either. Whoever adopts them needs to be aware of this. They are not going to be adopting dogs who are ready for the home as they have just been in kennels separate from other dogs."

She added that the dogs don't understand basic commands. They don't know the word 'no' or how to play as they have never been in such situations with humans.
