Copeland Council Bans Dogs in Public Areas

Mon, 14 Nov 2011

Copeland Council in Whitehaven has imposed a dog ban in public areas.

This ban came into force last Wednesday in order to reduce dog fouling on its streets.

It is also intended to improve the situation regarding complaints about uncontrolled dogs and their irresponsible dog owners .

Anybody breaching the new rule can face an £80 fixed penalty notice.

These measures have been introduced due to the level of public complaints.

They aim to ensure that irresponsible dog owners clean up after their pets and specify areas where dogs have to be kept on their leads, put their on leads if asked and are also banned from.

The ban on dogs in play areas is because their presence there is considered unsafe for the public.
