Lyme Regis to Deal with Dog Mess Problem

Thu, 03 Nov 2011

Lyme Regis councillors are calling for the ‘serious problem’ of dogs’ mess on its streets to be dealt with .

Councillors have urged for more patrols in residential areas to snare irresponsible dog owners who persist in not cleaning up after their pets .

The problem has only worsened since the council’s dog warden retired a few years ago.

The council presently has enforcement officers, whose duties include monitoring car parks and enforcing local byelaws.

The West Dorset District Council dog warden does his duties in Lyme Regis for just an hour a week which is usually by the seafront.

Lyme Regis Councillors know that they need to address this problem seriously.

A suggestion is that an enforcement officer undertakes more patrols in the early morning and evening in certain problem areas.

This week onwards dogs will be permitted on the main front beaches right through to the end of March.
