One Show Dog Presenter in Controversy

Fri, 23 Sep 2011

The One Show has a brand new segment, called "Fix My Dog" fronted by a dog behaviour expert called Jordan Shelley.

In his first, broadcast last Friday, Jordan handled an aggressive terrier called Roxy.

The dog was less aggressive by the end of the training.

It was the dog training method used that caused controversy.

Jordan used a dominant technique which involved a "battle of wills".

In the main sequence you saw the dog guarding its food bowl, snarling at those who approached.

Jordan handled this by purposely taunting the animal, putting his foot in the dog's face.

Some of the footage even looked like he was "kicking the dog" and "pushing his foot in the dog's face."

Lots of viewers were appalled as they considered that Jordan was being cruel and bullying a small dog.

After forty five minutes of this behaviour, the dog gave in and ceased growling at Jordan.

The Dogs Trust charity has emphasised that "any other pet dog owner attempting these methods will put themselves and their families at risk of serious dog bites."
