Owners need to clean up after their dog

Dog owners need to make sure they clean up after their pet when taking them for a walk.

This is the message from a new pilot scheme launched in Porthcawl,Wales, which is aiming to reduce the amount of dog mess found in the region’s streets, Wales Online reports.

A number of partners have joined forces to launch the Yes to Clean Streets initiative, including Bridgend Council, Porthcawl Shout, Porthcawl Town Council and Porthcawl Chamber of Trade.

As part of the scheme, new signs have been placed on all dog waste bins and leaflets have been distributed to local residents.

Mike Clarke, who organised the launch, explained the different partners involved were originally following up their own ideas on how to tackle the problem before deciding to pool their resources.

Mr Clarke stated: “Residents are totally fed up with the anti-social behaviour of a small minority of dog owners who do not pick up after their dogs.”

Another aspect of the campaign will see an additional enforcement officer deployed solely in Porthcawl working in shifts to make sure all areas are patrolled late at night and early in the morning.
