MP backs work of dog charity

Eastleigh MP Mike Thornton has urged more people to start rehoming more stray and abandoned animals.

The politician was on a visit to Southampton’s Blue Cross centre, which has seen a surge in the number of abandoned kittens recently, all of which need homes as soon as possible.

His trip involved a tour of the centre, as well as discussions covering local issues that affects the Liberal Democrat’s constituency, which recently had a by-election after the conviction of Chris Huhne of a driving offence.

Mr Thornton is now the proud owner of Pippin the cat, who he rehomed from the charity facility, although he has also adopted two rabbits in the past.

The Liberal Democrat said: “I’m really proud to have a Blue Cross centre locally. Blue Cross Southampton and its staff and volunteers, do a brilliant job, rehoming hundreds of stray and abandoned pets each year.”

More than 900 dogs, cats and small animals are given new families by the facility each year and it has been consistently praised for its work in the community.
