Dog day care centre could open in Portishead

Dog owners in Portishead, Somerset might find they have somewhere to take their pets while they’re at work if proposals to open a new day care centre are approved.

A planning application has been submitted by A Dogs Day Out to North Somerset Council for unit four in Old Mill Road to set up a training centre and grooming parlour for pooches, the Weston Mercury reports.

The company is looking to offer people day care facilities for their canine friends, which would include an optional collection and delivery service.

Alex Woodward, Portishead’s Chamber of Commerce president, said any new businesses opening in Portishead is good news for the town and claimed it is something the chamber is in “full support of”. He added: “It is exciting to see so much interest in a commercial area like this.”

Included in the plans for the day care centre alongside the large training area and parlour are exercise and play space and an outside penned area.

If the application is approved, the site will be open Monday to Friday from 07:00 GMT to 19:00, while it could immediately create eight full-time jobs and six part-time positions.
