Dogs Trust holds successful fundraising event

National pets charity The Dogs Trust has raised £1,560 after a single day of action in Basildon, Essex.

Staff from the welfare organisation descended on the town in anticipation of next year’s opening of a new rehoming centre that will see dozens of canines cared for and given medical treatment so that they can be given to new owners.

Volunteers painted 45 children’s faces, offered three dogs new homes, handed out 320 balloons and signed up 363 new recruits.

This will be a massive boost ahead of the opening of Dogs Trust Essex’s new rehoming centre, which will have 69 glass kennels, a dedicated training and rehabilitation centre, a training barn and even a grooming suite.

Maria Gill, Dogs Trust Essex education officer, said: “It’s safe to say our mission to turn the town yellow was achieved as nearly everyone walked away with a token of Dogs Trust, be it a balloon, bag [or] recruitment form.”

Ms Gill added that public support for the new rehoming facility was impressive and that the charity could not wait to open its doors.
