2014 Crufts Winner

Crufts has been and gone for another year, and so, of course, we have the champions for 2014.

Standing proud at the top of the winner’s list, and taking the title of Best in Show from last year’s winner, is a poodle by the Kennel Club name Ch/Am Ch. Afterglow Maverick Sabre, or alternatively, Ricky.

This year saw the highest number of entrants into the world’s biggest dog show in four years, meaning Ricky and his owner Jason Lynn, managed to beat more than 21,500 competitors. This is a 5% increase on entries from the previous year.

Ricky is from a long lineage of high achievers, with his sire winning the position of Top Utility Dog 2011 in the UK, and his great grandfather was the Reserve Best in Show for Crufts 2009. Ricky has beaten them all however.

The Reserve Best of Show for 2014 is a Samoyed by the name of Dan the Man, or by his official name Ch Nikara Diamond dancer JW. He competed in the final with Ricky, and was awarded second place. His owner, Sue Smith described him as “a very special dog and very easy to live with. He’s definitely a once in a life time dog.”

Ricky has now retired having won all that there is to win from the world of dog shows, and will live out a life of luxury with his owners.
