About the Borzoi Breed

The Borzoi is a tall dog with long legs, which help to give it a springy gallop, capable of quick starts. It is a very fast dog, and is quite similar to the greyhound. Bred to chase wolves, hares and foxes, the fast speed of the Borzoi was very useful on hunts. The speed is only enhanced by how narrow and muscular its body is, strong, but aerodynamic. It has a long narrow head, which helps to give it a wide range of vision.

The dog has a dense, multi-layered coat which helped to protect it from the harsh winters of Russia, where it was first bred. Having always worked with humans, the Borzoi is a very loving and loyal pet. It can fit in with almost any family situation, and will return any love given to it with interest.

Being an animal that was bred to run and hunt, it needs daily exercise in a large enough space to fully stretch its legs and reach its top speeds. However, this needs to be done in a fenced area, otherwise the Borzoi will shoot off into the distance, and be very hard to catch, because of that legendary speed.

The dog sheds hair from its thick coat, so will need brushing daily. It is also prone to bloating, so should be fed several smaller meals a day, rather than one big meal. It can also be quite stubborn when training, but with time and love you will have a loyal and adoring companion.
